Tottenham v Chelsea Tips and Betting Offers, Premier League, 20th August 2017, kick off 16.00
Tottenham make their league debut at their temporary home, and what better side to face than Chelsea? After defeat last weekend, the Blues are wounded coming in to this clash. Can they beat Spurs and add to their Wembley misery, or will this be a step too far for Antonio Conte’s men? With a fierce rivalry growing between these two, this fixture might be coming too early for both clubs.
Tottenham v Chelsea Betting Tips and Offers
Tottenham are heavy favourites for this one, despite their well-known record at Wembley. They’re priced at 21/20 with Bet365, while Chelsea are out at 5/2 with Betfred. That’s quite a gap, and the bookies don’t seem to rate the draw here either. It’s 12/5 with Coral for the points to be shared in this one, so the home win does seem to be decent value.
Spurs probably would have been bigger if the Blues weren’t enjoying such a torrid summer. They’ve failed to make any squad additions, simply replacing a small number of the players they’ve sold off. That’s left a paper thin squad, which is likely to have up to five absentees this weekend. Surely that gives Spurs the edge with Antonio Conte struggling to put a team together?
It’s hard to make a case for the champions here, who seem to be desperate for new signings but reluctant to spend. The club feels like it’s being pulled in different directions by those in power, almost masking Spurs’ lack of signings. At least the hosts can claim they have a united front – barring Danny Rose of course.
One thing Chelsea’s problems have done is take the pressure off their Wembley record. There’s not as much conversation about Spurs’ troubles at Wembley, now that Conte and co. appear to be in meltdown. We think all signs point to a Tottenham win, and there’s a few great value ways to back that outcome.
Dele Alli has scored three in his two meetings with Chelsea in 2017. The forward opened his tally for the season last weekend, and he’s going to be a key man for Spurs here. Given that Harry Kane is still searching for his first goal in the month of August, we think the smart thing here is to back a goal from Dele. He’s 5/2 with Sky Bet to score any time in a Spurs victory, and that’s our first tip here.
With Chelsea spending a club record fee on Alvaro Morata, they’ll have at least been pleased with how the side pushed forward against Burnley. While there are issues in midfield and defence, Chelsea have enough quality to grab a goal. That’s why we’re backing Tottenham to win and both teams to score at 3/1 with Ladbrokes.
