Haye v Bellew Betting Preview
While some boxing pundits are suggesting that David Haye might have underestimated Tony Bellew in the run-up to the bout, there is no doubting who the bookies think will leave the ring victorious.
David Haye is the 2/9 favourite to win the fight (with Betfair) with many bookies offering much shorter odds. Tony Bellew is the clear outsider at 6/1 with Sky Bet, with the unlikely draw price accordingly at 50/1 with Betfair.
The build-up to the fight has been a little depressing to some after Haye in particular appeared to take the trash talk just a little too far at times. But now all eyes are focussing on the O2 Arena… but can the WBC cruiserweight champion Bellew pull off a major shock by beating the Hayemaker?
On the face of it there’s not much between the fighters, Haye with 28 wins from 30 fights, Bellew with 28 from 31, but the quality of opposition has been – in general – tougher for Haye. Bellew has also gone up in the weights to make this fight, something that could cost him dear in the early rounds.
A lot, we feel, will come down to whether David Haye believes his own hype – if he does, there is a small chance he could be caught out if the Bellew camp gets the tactics right. But if Haye is focussed and keeps his cool, his superior power and technical skill should see him win the fight within five rounds. Backing Haye to win in rounds 1-6 looks the way to go at 4/6 with Betfair.
