England v Slovenia Betting Tips and Offers – Thursday 5th October 2017

England v Slovenia Tips and Betting Offers, World Cup Qualifier, Thursday 5th October 2017

Will Gareth Southgate wrap up England’s World Cup place this week? The Three Lions host Slovenia in their penultimate group game, and they’ll be out to make qualification certain after leading this group throughout. They could wrap up their place in Russia with one game to spare, and give Scotland a helping hand in the process. However, Southgate’s side drew away to Slovenia earlier in this group, could they be held to another stalemate at Wembley this week?

Betting Preview

England can be backed at 1/3 with Betfair to win this game, as they look to finish on a high in their final home game in this group. You can get 19/5 on the draw with Betfred this week, while BetVictor have priced up Slovenia at 10/1 to claim a shock win. Can England secure the points here, and will they be able to entertain in the process?

Southgate called on his team to win in style last month, as he looked for a more fluid approach from his players. With an impressive crop of young stars coming through, there’s a lot for Southgate to work with. However, the mood around the camp seems low once again, which makes it hard to produce a big attacking display.

England’s problems aren’t entirely their own making, with sides coming to Wembley looking to make things difficult for the Three Lions. The home fans tend to get restless after a dull opening period at Wembley, which piles more pressure on to the England players. When teams visit, their best strategy is to try and frustrate, which is something we’re likely to see on Thursday.

Best Bets

That could lead to a cagey opening 45 minutes here, especially as the visitors are a really well organised side. They have Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak in goal, who is one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now. They should have great foundations to make things difficult for the hosts, and we can see them getting to the break level. We’re backing England to be level at the break before going on to win, as that’s how Slovenia have lost their last two away qualifers. Draw/England on the half-time/full-time market is great value at 27/10 with Ladbrokes.

With Slovenia likely to set up to defend, we can’t see them creating too many chances. One area that England have improved in is at the back, they look well organised and should be able to finish off their campaign at Wembley with a clean sheet. With four of their last five home World Cup qualifiers seeing England win to nil, we’re backing the same again at evens with Coral.
