Chelsea v Manchester United Tips and Betting Offers, FA Cup, Monday 13th March 2017
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho heads to his former club on Monday night, but how much value is he putting in the FA Cup? They’ve already tasted domestic cup success, but their main aim is a return to the Champions League. Juggling three competitions could take a toll on the Red Devils, which isn’t what they want to hear ahead of this clash with Premier League leaders Chelsea.
With United away from home and possibly focusing elsewhere, it’s no surprise that Chelsea are favourites here. The Blues are priced at 17/20 with SkyBet to wrap up this tie within 90 minutes. The Red Devils are 10/3 outsiders with Betfair, while Bet365 make the draw 13/5. Neither manager would want to deal with extra time here, they’ll both be hoping to wrap things up early.
Mourinho will be hoping to banish memories of his last visit to the Bridge, when the Blues steamrollered his United side to win 4-0. That result saw some childish moaning from the Special One, while it boosted Chelsea’s push for the title under Antonio Conte. They now sit top of the table, having opened up a 17 point lead between them and United.
The visitors have problems piling up, with the Europa League last 16 taking place either side of this tie. Given that there’s a Champions League place up for grabs in that competition, it’s going to be their priority over the FA Cup, although that’s not what Mourinho would want. The Portuguese boss is also dealing with the absence of striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which he no doubt reacted to in a clam and level headed manner. All of that makes this tie even more difficult for the outsiders.
While United are without Ibrahimovic, they should still carry an attacking threat. The likes of Marcus Rashford can step in to that forward role, while the Red Devils need more support from midfield. With their talisman out, this is a perfect opportunity for their midfielders to step up. It’s likely that they will score, as Chelsea have conceded in five of their last six matches, with their defence opening up. We’re going with both teams to score in this clash at the excellent price of 11/10 with 888Sport.
We have no worries about Chelsea getting goals, especially with United weary in between European adventures. Conte will have a week to prepare for this game, and he’s likely to name his full strength line up. The Blues have scored at least twice in 11 of their last 12 home games, so we’re backing them to score over 1.5 goals at 11/10 with Coral.
