Chelsea v Arsenal Tips and Betting Offers, League Cup, Wednesday 10th January 2018
Chelsea and Arsenal lock horns just a week after their last Premier League meeting, with the two London giants battling in the EFL Cup semi-finals. These two have made the last four as they look to pick up the first silverware of the season. Just who will edge what is likely to be another heated clash between these two rivals? Having just played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Emirates, are we in line for another fantastic game when they meet at the Bridge this weekend.
Chelsea have been made odds on favourites for this clash with Arsenal, despite having a tough time against the Gunners of late. The Blues can be backed at 4/5 with Coral in this one, while Arsenal are out at 31/10 with BetVictor. The draw has been popular with these two sides of late, but it is priced out at 27/10 with Ladbrokes.
This is a chance for Arsene Wenger to add a trophy which he’s yet to win as Gunners boss. Despite his long reign in charge of Arsenal, he has yet to take them all the way in the League Cup – coming close with final defeats in 2007 (when they lost to Chelsea) and in 2011. Will they be able to go one step further this time around?
Both sides will be wary of the fact that Man City are likely to be the final opponents in the League Cup, with Pep Guardiola’s side running away with things domestically. However, that will be put to one side as these two renew their recently fiery rivalry, with Wenger finding a way to frustrate Conte’s Chelsea.
Recent meetings between the two have been tight, including their 0-0 draw in the last meeting at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal travelled there to frustrate, allowing Chelsea to get on the front foot but denying them space higher up the pitch. Wenger will likely be prepared to do the same this week, given that it’s just the first leg of a semi-final. On top of that, adopting a more defensive approach helps him to protect the attacking players that he rotates so often. As a result, we’re backing under 2.5 goals in this one at 11/10 with Betfair.
We’re also backing a draw between these two, which has landed in the three previous meetings between the pair this season. All three of those encounters have been level at half-time and full-time, yet you can get a fantastic price on a repeat of that in this game. With Arsenal likely to bide their time in this trip, we think a draw at the end of each half is brilliant value. That’s available at 11/2 with Betfred on the half-time/full-time market.
