Arsenal v Manchester United Tips and Betting Offers, Premier League, Saturday 2nd December
Jose Mourinho long held an impressive unbeaten record against Arsene Wenger, but he suffered his first Premier League defeat to the Frenchman last season. That loss is part of an awful run of form for Mourinho and United on the road against the league’s top sides, which could prove very costly to their hopes of beating City to top spot. Can the Red Devils end their awful form away to the elite, or will Arsenal continue their relentless home form in the weekend’s biggest game?
United may be seen as the clearest challengers to Man City’s relentless charge towards the title, but the bookies are expecting the Red Devils to slip up here. Arsenal are 6/4 favourites for this one with Coral, while United are out at 9/5 with Coral. You can get 12/5 with BetVictor on the draw here, which is always worth considering when Jose Mourinho is involved.
The Red Devils’ boss usually sets up with a defence-first approach in these big games, and it’s given him an impressive record in crunch matches over the years. It’s hard to argue with his record overall, but things have been slipping of late. Over his time with Manchester United and Chelsea, the Portuguese coach has fallen into a poor record on the road. His sides have failed to score in nine of their last 10 away to the top six teams, and that’s a record they need to change heading in to Saturday’s match.
Arsenal are on a really impressive run at the minute, having won their last 12 matches at the Emirates in the Premier League. That streak makes them favourites here, and the way their attack is clicking only reinforces that as far as we’re concerned. Given how well their forward line linked up on Wednesday, we think Olivier Giroud will be pushing for a starting spot. He scored twice for the Gunners in midweek, and he’ll be looking to punish United again after scoring at Old Trafford last term. We’re backing the Frenchman to score any time, which is priced at nice odds of 15/8 with Betfair.
Given United’s troubles in front of goal on the road, we’re also backing an Arsenal win to nil at 7/2 with Ladbrokes. The Gunners have improved at the back of late, and they should be able to hold out a United side who will likely come here parking the bus, before resorting to pumping the ball long. That should be something that the Gunners deal with, so we think there’s fantastic value to be found on backing a home win and clean sheet.
