Leicester v Atletico Madrid Tips and Betting Offers, Champions League, Tuesday, 18th April 2017
Could this finally be the year when Atletico Madrid lift the European Cup? Things are starting to fall for them, as they lead 1-0 ahead of this meeting with underdogs Leicester. The Spaniards have switched focus from La Liga to focus on the Champions League, and they’ll be aiming to wrap things up in the King Power and progress to the semis for the third time since 2014.
Leicester v Atletico Madrid Betting Tips and Free Bets
Atletico Madrid are favourites to claim a victory in this second leg, as they’re priced at 11/10 with SkyBet. Meanwhile, Leicester are out at 13/5 with Ladbrokes for the points, with the draw priced at 12/5 with Bet365. Given that it’s win or bust at this point for the Foxes, there’s clearly little faith in them making the last four. However, few gave them much hope against Sevilla last time out.
Leicester are everyone’s favourite underdog in this competition, but there’s no room for that in the latter stages of Europe’s biggest competition. It’s taken years for Diego Simone to craft a side who can compete with the top sides despite limited resources. They come in to this match as favourites, thanks to their ability to match the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
This is very much a battle between a simple 4-4-2 and Atletico Madrid’s tactical knowledge. While they don’t have a confusing, Pep Guardiola-esque set up, they are fantastic at managing a game. They don’t need their boss barking at them, the Spaniards seem to hunt out weaknesses and break them down where possible. It’s not an easy skill to master, and it sets Atleti apart from most of Europe.
That’s what made this tie so difficult for Leicester. A meeting with Dortmund or Monaco, two of the most inexperienced sides in the final eight, would have been easier. Atletico come in to this game with a lot of experience in Europe, having made two finals on the back of excellent defending and great play on the counter.
A clean sheet will be enough for Atletico, and they’re set up to pull that off. We’re backing more defensive joy for the visitors, who are likely to turn this in to a cagey affair by denying space very early on. It’s very important that the Foxes don’t get any momentum built up. Given that, we’re backing against both teams to score on Tuesday night. It’s priced at 37/40 with BetVictor. That’s great value, given that just two of Atletico’s nine European matches this term have seen both sides score.
We were going to add a win to nil for the visitors on to that, but there’s more value in following a 1-0 win for the away side. Atletico are 6/1 with Betfair to win 1-0, a scoreline they’ve pulled off four times in Europe already.
