St James’s Palace Stakes Betting Tips

The St James’s Palace Stakes is a Group 1 race over a distance of one mile. It’s one of the real highlights of Royal Ascot and is a top class affair. Greats such as Giant’s Causeway and Rock of Gibraltar have won it before. Churchill will look to join recent winners such as the mighty Frankel (2011) and Gleneagles (2015).

The current odds see this as a straight fight between the favourite and Barney Roy. The latter is priced at best odds of 9/4 with the field 10/1 bar. Favourites and shorter odds horses tend to do well in this one and we have to agree with the oddsmakers here.

The Richard Hannon-trained Barney Roy is a worthy contender and finished just a length back from Churchill at Newmarket in the 2000 Guineas. Under James Doyle, he stayed on well that day but we just see no reason to oppose that form.

Obviously odds of 4/6 are short and betting at normal odds you may be attempted to oppose Churchill. However, ultimately we feel the Aiden O’Brien is a decent punt, even at such short odds.

With Ryan Moore taking the ride it’s hard to oppose Churchill. He’s won seven in a row now, including some really competitive affairs on a range of ground. 25/1 is a massive price so join Coral and claim this offer.

With just £1 on the line and a £5 free bet as insurance, what have you got to lose?
